Cannabis legalization in California has opened the door to allow thousands of people to legally purchase cannabis for the first time. As a Cannabis Consultant at a recreational shop in Palm Springs, I’ve had the pleasure of helping people from all over the world; like Australia, Peru, and Brazil, just to name a few! With so many new faces coming in, a trend has definitely been set for what the go-to products are. Although there is no need for a medical recommendation, many of the recreational patients I see coming in are seeking cannabis for the medicinal benefit.
As more studies are published, and as an increase in people switching over from pharmaceuticals to holistic medicine rises, the benefits of Cannabis are shining brighter than before. Many of the new patients walking in have either heard about the benefits of cannabis through some article, or have a friend/family member that uses it. A majority of these new recreational patients are seeking something for pain, stress, and/or insomnia relief. And to be more specific, they are looking for methods to receive this relief without having to smoke; making tinctures, edibles, and topicals the most desirable items on the market.
The most well-known administration method has to be with Edibles. With the new dosing regulations, a majority of the edibles we have are portioned at 5mg, making them great for beginners, as well as those who have consumed edibles before, but were never sure how much THC they were actually consuming. From those seeking insomnia relief, to daytime pain relief, there’s usually an edible for that.
Tinctures, and specifically CBD tinctures have also been popular in the new legal market. In the past year, the health benefits of CBD have been widespread and many are looking to try a CBD product from a dispensary. One of the main reasons CBD tinctures have become so popular is due to their ability to provide relief, without any mind altering effects. Making them a go-to for daytime relief and for novice users.
Topicals are the third product that I get asked about the most. Many first time patients asking for topicals have heard about them, but are unsure of how they actually work. This has been one of the most popular items for novice users, especially elderly patients, who want the benefits of Cannabis without the psychoactive effects. From THC to CBD topicals, many recreational patients are adding topicals to their treatment regime.
This is only the beginning for legal Cannabis in California. It will be exciting to see how long this trend lasts, and what new, innovative products come out in the market.
